Read recent reviews, not just the overall rating. Avoid deals from unknown brands that seem impossibly cheap. Never pay a seller outside Amazon's checkout system, no matter what they claim.
Amazon is one of the safest places to shop online. The risks are real but manageable, and the buyer protection is among the best in e-commerce. Just remember: Amazon the retailer and Amazon the marketplace are two different experiences.
